Why hasn't your bone healed?

Hello everyone. My name is Dr. Chris Pallia, and I am an orthopedic surgeon based out of San Diego California and I am affiliated with the Synergy Orthopedic Specialists Medical Group.

Periodically, there are advancements in technology that are "game changers." I would like to let you know about a new product that is available that helps to heal bones that have failed to heal on their own. As you know, bones can take 6 to 8 weeks to heal and become solid again. If they are properly immobilized, and there is adequate blood supply, then generally the bone will heal itself, as long as is not significantly displaced. Some bones have decreased vascularity and are at increased risk of not healing (nonunion). In certain cases where a bone has not healed appropriately, especially after a period of 3 months of time, a surgical intervention is usually necessary to get the bone to heal. Occasionally, if there is appropriate immobilization, application of a bone stimulator may heal the bone. In other cases, something is needed to be added to the fracture site to help stimulate bone healing. In these particular cases, there is a new product that has come onto the market from Synthes which covers the 3 important properties of bone healing and helps to stimulate all 3 properties. This bone graft is helping me to cure nonunions through judicious application to the fracture site.

If you or someone you know has a bone that has failed to heal, please do not hesitate to contact me in my office at (619) 435-7282. I would be happy to evaluate your nonunion or bone that has not healed and provide you with options for healing.
