Knee Arthritis Treatment Update

A new research article was recently published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine. The article compared injection therapies for the treatment of knee arthritis. A systematic review was performed of 18 studies comparing platelet rich plasma injections versus hyaluronic acid injections.

The study concluded, at an average follow-up of 11 months, that average improvement was significantly higher in the platelet rich plasma injection group. This study again highlights the benefits of PRP injection therapy for the long-term treatment and reduction of symptoms for mild-to-moderate knee arthritis. This article will hopefully influence insurance carriers to begin paying for this essential arthritis treatment modality.
